Studentships will cover, for three years or pro-rata part-time: full fees (at home or international rate), an annual stipend (c.£16,000), and a training grant of £500 per year.
About
The Department of Sociology is pleased to announce two Doctoral studentships for postgraduate research starting in October 2022. Two awards will be made to outstanding postgraduate researchers whose work aligns with research themes of the Department of Sociology. Find out more about our research themes.
Awards can be made to UK or international candidates.
Applications will be assessed on:
- Personal statement
- Educational and professional achievements
- Feasibility and quality of the research proposal
- Fit to the Department of Sociology themes
- Fit to the proposed supervisory team.
Eligibility criteria
You will need to meet the minimum entry requirements for our PhD programme. Successful candidates will need to apply to the University of Surrey.
Offers will be subject to satisfactory references.
This studentship is open to any UK or international candidates.

Funding application forms (docx) should be completed electronically and returned to Louise Jones at l.jones@surrey.ac.uk. The deadline for applications is 15 July 2022. Late applications will not be accepted. Please note that applications will go through a number of stages. We will assess the application forms on the above criteria and invite a shortlist to interview. Following interview, successful applicants will also need to apply to the University of Surrey through the Sociology PhD programme page, clearly stating that you are applying for the Sociology Doctoral Studentships 2022.
