Undergraduate

If you are studying for French qualifications, you will need a suitable equivalent grade to apply for our undergraduate courses. The table below shows grade equivalencies for France.

Minimum standard in English and mathematics

If you are applying for an undergraduate course at Surrey, you must meet our minimum standards for English and mathematics.

English:

  • Baccalauréat, English 14 (bien), where the subject coefficient is greater than one.
  • OIB, English 10, where the subject coefficient is greater than one.

Mathematics:

  • Baccalauréat, Mathematics 10.
  • OIB, Mathematics 10.

Some courses may require higher grades in English and mathematics and/or additional subjects, so please check the requirements provided on individual course pages.

Undergraduate foundation courses

If you do not meet the direct entry requirements for a course, you can apply to study on one of our UK/ EU foundation courses. If you are applying from France, we typically look for a minimum of 11 in the Baccalauréat .

Postgraduate

You can apply for our postgraduate masters courses if you have a French Bachelors degree.

To apply for one of our postgraduate courses that require a UK 2:1, you must achieve a GPA of 13.0 out of 20.

For courses that require a UK 2:2, you must achieve a GPA of 11.5 out of 20.

For courses that require a UK first-class degree to be eligible for a scholarship, you must achieve a GPA of 16.0 out of 20.

English language requirements

If you don’t meet our requirements, we offer intensive pre-sessional English language courses, designed to take you to the level of English ability and skill required for your studies. We are also a British Council accredited IELTS test centre. ​​​​​​
