Professor Carol Woodhams gave evidence about gender issues in the retention of doctors to the Health and Social Care Select Committee at the House of Commons.

On 22nd March, Professor Carol Woodhams was invited to deliver oral evidence to the Health and Social Care Select Committee on the topic of gender issues in the retention of medical doctors and the gender pay gap in the NHS.

Professor Woodhams led the research team that delivered the ‘Mend the Gap’ independent review into gender pay gaps in medicine. The committee is chaired by Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP.

The session was part of the review of the healthcare workforce currently being undertaken by the committee. Questions during the session focused on the causes of the gender pay gap in medicine, links between the retention of doctors and the gender pay gap, plus solutions and remedies.
