Filipe Worsdell is a Teaching Fellow within the Department of Strategy and International Business. He completed his doctorate at the Surrey Business School in 2019. His thesis, titled “Corporate Corruption: Individual Discretion and Corporate Financial Integrity in Portugal” is a study into corporate corruption, corporate governance (formal rules) and individual professional responsibility (informal standards) within multinational corporations (MNC). Empirical evidence was observed through the lens of Cooperative Game Theory and Risk, Uncertainty and Profit Theory.
As an HEA Fellow, the focus is now on teaching his students strategy and international business. It is study that acknowledges the importance of top management structures, organisational behaviour, individual business ethics and corporate governance. Filipe’s pedagogical interests lie in encouraging the next generation of business leaders to effectively tackle the challenges of international investment and global trade and to better understand the successes and failures of those that have gone before them.
Filipe's industry experience extends to over twenty years within the investment banking sector, seven years of which as Chief Financial Officer of a Euronext and London Stock Exchange listed financial conglomerate based in the City of London. Previously, as Head of Corporate Debt and Derivatives Trading for a leading Portuguese investment bank, Filipe conducted multinational business across three continents. Prior to his banking career, Filipe served as a Commissioned Officer in the British Army.
