Dr James Locke-Scobie
About
Biography
My clinical commitments include working as a salaried General Practitioner one day per week in Crondall, Surrey and also training to be a consultant paediatrician on the Kent, Surrey and Sussex paediatric training programme.
I have previously enjoyed a role as a medical support officer working on the country's largest gross negligence manslaughter investigation into deaths at Gosport War Memorial Hospital with Kent Police. I have also worked in medical communication, writing health advice articles for Boots.com.
This is my first foray into formal academia. I completed an MA in medical ethics and law, with particular focus on consent, mental health and reproductive ethics and law. I also conducted a large research project into the bioethical and medicolegal considerations relating to non-therapeutic circumcision of neonates in the UK for which I achieved a distinction.
University roles and responsibilities
- Lecturer in Medical Education - School of Medicine
My qualifications
Pass with distinction.
Teaching
I have previously enjoyed teaching a variety of topics to the Guildford VTS GP scheme including medicine for the LGBT community, and medical law for GPs.
I am excited to be co-leading the Team-Based Learning strand of the course for the first year of the new medical school, and am looking forward to focussing on medical ethics and law in the later years of the course to improve student knowledge and understanding of key concepts in the current medicolegal and bioethical landscape.
