Computer Vision, Robotics and Machine Learning MScEntry year
2017"I was inspired to study for the MSc Computer Vision, Robotics and Machine Learning because, having worked in industry for four years, I realised that the two things I most enjoyed were studying and constantly challenging myself. The best way to achieve both these goals was to take on further study through a Masters programme.
I’ve been interested in machine learning and computer vision since my undergraduate degree, and as Surrey has the biggest computer vision centre in the UK – the Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP) – it was a logical decision to come here to study for my Masters.
I think we are just beginning to see machine learning being applied to many fields that affect people’s everyday lives, so it is a very exciting time to be studying the subject. It’s also great to know that that there is a huge potential for this area to grow in the future, which is something I will be able to contribute to.
"The aspects of the course I’ve most enjoyed have been the machine learning and computer vision modules. It’s been a great pleasure to study these topics at at a much more in-depth level."
The lecturers are fantastic. Not only are they knowledgeable in their own fields, they are also very good at communicating in an easy-to-understand way.
One of the best things about being at Surrey has been my fellow students. I’m living off campus with four other female postgraduate students, and I’ve really enjoyed their company, especially during exam time when support is much needed.
I’m not sure exactly what I plan to do when I complete my MSc, but I certainly hope to do something as challenging as this course."
