"Receiving an offer from Surrey was a brilliant feeling! When I received a personalised offer letter from the head of my department, it was great to see that they had thoroughly read my personal statement and wanted me to join the University.

I first came to Surrey for a summer open day and was struck by how welcoming everyone was and the community feel of the campus. It was also great to find out more about my course by speaking to academics, which helped me to make my decision about coming to Surrey.

After receiving my offer from the University, I attended an Applicant Day within the languages department, which gave me the opportunity to attend mock style lectures and get to know the teaching staff. I was also able to meet other prospective students (including some now close friends of mine) and had a tour of the campus. It definitely reassured me of my decision to put Surrey as my firm choice of university, so I would recommend attending an Applicant Day if you receive an offer.

Induction week was really useful in helping me to settle into life at Surrey. We had sessions so we could learn about the University’s resources and facilities, and the students’ union Welcome Week events at Rubix (the on-campus nightclub) were a great way to get to know my new housemates. Living in halls is such a brilliant way to meet people!

"Since starting at Surrey, I have definitely grown in confidence."

Since starting at Surrey, I have definitely grown in confidence. Getting involved with societies and sports clubs has helped me to feel more outgoing. Guildford is also a lovely town; it’s home to so many shops and restaurants as well as the castle and the River Wey, and you can get to London in just 30 minutes by train. Between lectures, I enjoy socialising on campus either by the lake or at Lakeside coffee shop.

I recently returned from a year on Professional Training placement in Madrid, working in human resources for a group of British international schools. I would 100% recommend Professional Training to others. It’s a brilliant way to gain work experience before graduating and it was also great to improve my Spanish language skills and live abroad for a year!

When I graduate, I would like to apply for a graduate scheme for an international company, and am currently looking into schemes related to human resources."
