Course

Film and Video Production Technology BSc (Hons)

Entry year

2016

“Out of all the universities I looked at, Surrey offered such a unique course. I see myself as technical-minded and I’m really interested in knowing the science behind how things work. I was looking for a course which would teach me more than just the practical side; I wanted to learn the true fundamentals so I could ultimately use equipment better once I start work.

The challenge of the BSc Film and Video Production Technology course is what makes it so worthwhile and rewarding. There are plenty of opportunities to film and practise your craft and I’ve already played an integral part in nearly 30 productions.

Some of the staff on the course are really top notch. Our lecturers often hear of interesting opportunities outside of the University, which gives us a great chance to try out something new on a practical level.

"The facilities and equipment rival that of the external commercial industry."

My course mates and I often wonder if we are the degree with the most University spending per student – the facilities and equipment rival that of the external commercial industry!

I am very grateful that we have so much high-quality equipment to hand; using £30k camera bodies gives me the confidence that I will be able to handle others out there in the professional sphere.

There is always so much going on in Surrey. There is a very good sports park with almost any facility you could wish for, including a very popular gym. Guildford is a very nice place to live, providing a good combination of an outgoing social life, stuff to visit and natural spaces where you can get away from it all and relax. I am not much of a clubber or drinker but if you like your pubs – Guildford has more than enough!

Definitely get involved with as many societies and clubs as possible when you’re at Surrey. In my first year, I joined Meditation, Yoga, Theatre, Salsa, Powerlifting, Mountaineering and Board Game societies and, this year, I founded my own Street Fitness Society. You’ll make new friends while expanding your interests and trying things you’ve never done before. Never in life have I had so many different interests in one place.

Since I started at Surrey, I’ve become more confident, social, adventurous and knowledgeable. My current aspirations are to become a wildlife cameraman – something I know I can achieve, despite it being a tough profession to break into.”
