Nutrition and Dietetics“I realised that I wanted to work within the food and health industry when I was completing mg GCSES. After some research, I discovered the job of a Dietitian and immediately knew it was right for me.
I first learnt about the University of Surrey at a HE fair and I was so excited that it offered Nutrition and Dietetics. A visit to an Open Day confirmed that Surrey was where I wanted to study. I loved the area, facilities and general feel of the place, and Surrey’s excellent league table results topped it all off.
I lived in Stag Hill Court during my first year. This was an amazing experience and I met so many great people, all with completely different backgrounds. The halls are so close to everything on campus and gave me the security I needed when making the big move from home.
I love learning about food and how it is associated with our health. Healthy eating and nutrition is always a hot topic worldwide, and it's exciting to be studying a degree that has strong links with emerging research.
The facilities at Surrey are fantastic, with everything you need right on campus including a massive library with a great online system. Surrey Sports Park is great, and was a major selling point for me when I first visited Surrey. There are so many societies and clubs offered, and I would recommend joining at least one as it’s a chance to meet so many great people.
My course includes compulsory placements with the NHS. So far, I've completed my four-week in an acute hospital where I had plenty of support from University staff and my placement mentors. I am already so excited for my two 12-week placements next year.
I have grown up a lot since starting the course and I’m more self-confident. After graduation, I hope to be working in an acute hospital as a registered dietitian, and after a few years I would like to have a specialist area."
