Mathematics and physics outreach

Delivered through a partnership between our University and the Learning Partners Academy Trust, the Surrey Maths School opened its doors in September 2024. A centre of excellence for studying maths and other STEM subjects at A-level, applications for the September 2025 intake close on December 31 2024.

The University of Surrey hosts free subject-specific taster days which allow sixth form and college students to experience a subject at undergraduate level.

We offer a taster programme as part of the Residential Summer School which is held each July. This is an opportunity for eligible year 12 students from state schools and colleges to have a chance to experience studying a subject that they love at university level.

Are you curious about astronomy and interested in hearing more? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to look at the stars, planets or the moon through a telescope? Or have you ever thought I’d love to hear about exciting current astronomy research? Then here’s your chance!

The Institute of Physics lectures are held at the University of Surrey campus on Tuesday evenings and are accessible and understandable to all.

Every year, the Institute of Physics and the University of Surrey join forces to host a day of space-related events in Guildford town centre which includes, demonstrations, talks and interactive exhibits.

The Pint of Science festival is held every year in various locations across the UK, with Guildford being one of them. Our maths and physics staff always participate, sharing their scientific discoveries with members of the public.

Blending comedy, music, art, research, science, performance, and more, Bright Club gives you the chance to watch our staff have a laugh on stage.
