A day centred around the cello, with performances and workshops encompassing exciting repertoire ranging from J.S. Bach and Astor Piazzolla, to contemporary music with electronics and Balkan folk music. Featuring a stellar line up of award-winning and internationally renowned performers including cellist Matthew Barley with Oded Ben-Tal (electronics), and cellist Rowena Calvert joined by accordionist Miloš Milivojevic and harpist Eleanor Turner.

Schedule

 

11:30 am. Open public rehearsal, Matthew Barley (cello) / Oded Ben-Tal (electronics)

 

1.10 pm. Concert including works for cello and electronics by John Metcalfe, Zoë Martlew, Jonathan Harvey, Oded Ben Tal, Karen Tanaka and with improvisations by Matthew Barley. Matthew Barley (cello), Oded Ben-Tal (electronics).

 

3.00 pm. Workshop. Rowena Calvert presents ‘Cello through the Ages’ demonstrating with Bach’s timeless Cello Suites.

 

4:00 pm. Roundtable discussion with the performers. Chair Dr Tom Armstrong.

 

5:00 pm. Ensemble concert including Balkan folk music and with works by Astor Piazzolla. Rowena Calvert (cello), Miloš Milivojevic (accordionist), Eleanor Turner (harp).
