Researching aspects of post-quantum cryptography

Researching the security, efficiency, applications and the underlying mathematics of various post-quantum cryptographic systems: these next-generation schemes are designed to withstand attacks by both quantum and classical computers.

Start date

1 October 2019

Duration

3 years

Application deadline

Funding source

The University of Surrey

Funding information

Stipend of £16,000 per annum.

Studentship Fees are covered at UK /EU rates.

The studentship is open to both UK/EU students (full award – tuition plus stipend) and international students (partial award - tuition at the UK/EU rate plus stipend). International applicants are encouraged to apply for a fee scholarship to reduce tuition fees to the UK/EU rate.

About

The Secure Systems Research Group in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Surrey invites applications for a funded PhD studentship in post-quantum cryptography. These next-generation cryptographic systems are designed to withstand attacks by both quantum and classical computers. The envisaged areas of research include isogeny-based and lattice-based post-quantum schemes (and possibly others), focusing on their security, efficiency, applications as well as the underlying mathematics.

The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr Robert Granger, whose main interest is computational number theory and its applications to cryptography and cryptanalysis.
