Institution of Biorefinery Engineers, Scientists and Technologists
We are a network of professionals committed to advancing cross-disciplinary knowledge and education in biorefinery. By fostering research excellence and communicating best practices, we aim to reduce the environmental impact of biorefinery, helping to alleviate poverty and mitigate climate change in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
We bring together professionals from a diverse range of science and engineering backgrounds with a specialism in bio and renewable systems. We aim to develop knowledge and best practices around sustainable biorefinery practices, helping to neutralise greenhouse gases and work towards net zero strategy developments. Our mission includes demonstrating the benefits of this work to society, and providing education, training and support in biorefinery R&D. Our overall objective is to promote and develop biorefinery for a sustainable circular economy, poverty alleviation and climate change mitigation.
Our mission is to promote and develop biorefinery engineering as a discipline, with contributions from professionals from a diverse range of science and engineering, with a research focus on bio and renewable systems.
Our vision is to create generations of creative and competent professionals with a strong social consciousness and awareness, and with the ability to shape future integrated production and consumption systems for a sustainable net zero circular economy.
In the most advanced sense, a biorefinery is a facility with integrated, efficient and flexible conversion of biomass feedstocks, through a combination of physical, chemical, biochemical and thermochemical processes, into multiple products.Biorefineries and Chemical Processes, Wiley's Game-Changing Courseware, 2014
