Surrey graduate celebrates top hotel award
One of our graduates credits the education she received at Surrey for her professional success in the hotel industry –with her boutique hotel on the Aegean island of Mykonos named Top Greek Hotel 2019.
Kallirroi (Roy) Kalfopoulou, who graduated with an MSc in International Hotel Management in 2012, is the owner of the 21-room Rocabella Hotel Resort and Spa, which she opened in 2010. Since then it has also been rated the number one hotel in Mykonos on TripAdvisor.
Roy said: “I am extremely happy to be named top hotel. This very important award is a motivation to try even harder and proof that having an efficient and friendly team brings results. Cheers to the next one!
“My postgraduate degree provided me with all the knowledge I needed to succeed in my professional career. The hotel industry has always been my passion and I have focused very hard on achieving my goals.”
Roy received her award at the Greek Hospitality Awards from the Minister of Greek Tourism, Elena Kountoura. The winners are decided by prominent figures within the industry and a public vote to highlight pioneering and creative hotels and travel agencies.
“Our main goal is to create ‘a home away from home’ concept,” said Roy. “Our guests are individually treated according to their personal needs. This is feasible because we are a boutique hotel, so this offers us the luxury to really understand what each of our guest needs in order to have an ideal holiday in Greece. I am really happy when I see the hotel guests are having their dream vacation.”
