Biography
Before my role at the University of Surrey, I worked in the National Health Service (NHS) as a Dietitian. My experiences as a Dietitian were mainly based in acute hospitals, and I have worked across many specialities, particularly in head and neck oncology and acute medicine. I have significant experience in nutrition support, including oral nutrition support, enteral feeding, and parenteral feeding. I provided dietetic care to Covid-19 patients in the critical care unit during the pandemic.
In my most recent NHS role, I led the oncology team of the dietetic department at North Middlesex University Hospital, and I also provided clinical and professional supervision to the medical team (acute medicine and gastroenterology). I was also the Enteral Feeding Lead for Nutrition and Dietetics at North Middlesex University Hospital and I coordinated issues related to enteral feeding in the hospital, including review of Trust enteral feeding guidelines and policies and representing the Department in the North Central London Consortium Enteral Feeding Group Contract Monitoring Meeting. I was the Pre-registration Clinical Training Lead for Nutrition and Dietetics in the hospital and had significant experience devising and delivering clinical placements for dietetic students.
I had completed a few service improvement projects, one of which was enhancing the student learning experience on placement and developing digital student tutorials. I had also co-led the project to transform the prophylactic feeding tube procedure for head and neck cancer patients at North Middlesex University Hospital from an overnight procedure to a day case procedure during the Covid pandemic, which has released the NHS resources, improved cost, and reduced cancer patients' exposure to the Covid virus.
I am actively involved in professional networks and have sat on a few British Dietetic Association (BDA) Specialist Groups Committees, including the BDA Gastroenterology Specialist Group and the BDA Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Specialist Group. I am currently the Treasurer of the BDA Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Specialist Group.
I joined the University of Surrey as a Teaching Fellow in Nutrition and Dietetics in 2021. I have a particular interest in the professional development of student dietitians and dietetic education.
