White enough? Perceptions of school climate among Polish children in the UK
This research project explores the intersection between education and migration drawing on Polish migrant children experiences of inclusion in the British educational system. The study focuses on first-generation children perceptions of the school and classroom climates in the UK, their social relations with peers and teachers, and their perception of inclusion and exclusion. The methodological design takes an ethnographic approach, including ethnographic interviews and participatory research methods with migrant children from state schools in Britain.
Thiago has been presenting papers on education of children and marginalised groups in conferences on Sociology of Education and Geography Education both in his home country and abroad. He has articles and book chapters on ethnography with children, cartography with children, participatory mapping, LGBT pupils, educational policy and non-traditional groups in higher education. To date, the conceptual and theoretical frameworks included gender, feminist and postcolonial theories as lens to investigate the issues he explores in teaching and research practice. These are mostly grounded in qualitative methodology including visual, collaborative and child-centred research methods in his work, such as walk-along interviews, mind maps, drawings and photographs.
