Course

Nutrition and Dietetics

"I have always had an interest in cooking and the impact of food on our daily lives. I chose to study Nutrition/Dietetics as it perfectly fits my interests and I want a career where I can help and support people.

I received offers from all the Universities that I applied to, but the campus at Surrey was the best I had seen and I was impressed by the University’s reputation and the new accommodation facilities at Manor Park.

I completed three placements during the programme to gain clinical experience. They were really enjoyable and allowed me to put the knowledge I gained from lectures into practice. The department has a clinical placement facilitator who does a great job in preparing you for placement, and the colleagues I worked with were welcoming and made me feel like part of the team. As I progressed through the placements, I gained more responsibility until I was looking after my own wards.

When I finish at Surrey, I plan to work as a graduate dietitian, but I hope to progress and become an oncology dietitian based in the hospital setting.

I have gained a lot more confidence since I started the course, and every experience that I have had has reassured me that a career in the NHS as a dietitian is for me."
