The true standout for me has been the friends I made during my time here. Since Surrey attracts such a diverse student body, I enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life and made friendships that will last a lifetime!

The best aspect of studying at Surrey is the industry relevance. From day one, I felt connected to real-world applications, particularly through the university’s collaborations with top satellite companies.

Someone told me early on that if I didn’t achieve a first on my degree that I shouldn’t try to be a clinical psychologist. Well, I didn’t get a first and here I am!

I believe the course provided me with a deep understanding of various sustainability-related issues and this helped me massively in finding a job. I have had two jobs since finishing the course and I currently work as an Energy and Sustainability Reporting Manager.

Without my placement I would not be where I am today: almost five years on and I still work at Broadmoor Hospital. I am so glad I did a placement; it changed the course of my career for the better.

My placement completely set me up for my early career. I began working in a laboratory with skills beyond the level I was being trained at in my new job, and it gave me a head-start to carry out my own research to a high standard." 

I really enjoyed the choice you get with Sociology with the modules and the area of interest you want to specialise in. This also helped me decide what area of work I wanted to go into after graduating. 

The placement year was an opportunity to learn and develop a number of transferable skills including stakeholder management, analysis and reporting, as well as be able to experience and get a sense of a professional working environment.

I plan and create organic social media content for different clients such as Hard Rock Cafe, CarFest, and many more. It's a really fun job and I'm certain that the skills and knowledge I developed during my time at Surrey were a great contributor in securing it.
