When joining our exciting and vibrant community, you will have access to a number of different benefits, some of which are summarised below.


We have a generous core annual leave allowance of 30 days for academic staff and 25 days for non-academic staff. We also give you seven additional days: three days at Easter, three days at Christmas, plus one additional discretionary day.

Salary and bonus scheme

We know how important it is to recognise the positive contribution our staff make to the success of the University. With this in mind, we currently operate a University bonus scheme in addition to our salaries being aligned with the national pay scale.


We currently offer employees the opportunity to join one of two occupational pension schemes (our pension plan or superannuation scheme), depending on job grade/level. Full details will be made available on appointment.

Family leave

Whether you choose to take advantage of our campus nursery, benefit from tax and national insurance savings on your child care fees, or need to take time off work for maternity or paternity leave, we will support you.

Work-life balance and flexible working

We believe that all our employees should have a healthy work-life balance and where possible we support flexible methods of working.

On-site childcare

Guildford Bright Horizons Day Nursery and Preschool provides staff with flexible, on-site childcare. Should you wish to use the nursery, you can choose to pay for childcare through the University’s Salary Sacrifice Scheme.

Sports and leisure

Our employees enjoy access to Surrey Sports Park membership, which offers a range of classes, first-class gym, Olympic-sized swimming pool, climbing wall, tennis and squash courts.

Career development and training

Our experienced in-house team offer a broad range of courses, workshops and bespoke sessions for individuals and groups. We also work with external consultants and training providers to offer you different ways to learn and develop.


We can support your commuting needs whichever method you want to travel to campus. We offer a cycle to work scheme, season ticket loans for bus and train travel and car parking permits for staff (eligibility criteria apply).


There are a number of discounts that external companies offer to our staff. Currently these companies include Santander and Bupa.
