In the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) 80 per cent of our combined mechanical engineering research was rated as world-leading or internationally excellent, placing Surrey in 22nd place out of 106 institutions submitted in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials category.

Studentships

Smart flooring solutions for fall protection

Funding information:
The studentship will cover University fees and a stipend (£15,400) for 3.5 years in addition to £1,000 per annum to be spent on research and training for the student.

Effect of chemical degradation and formulation stability on viscoelastic relaxation processes

Funding information:
Fully funded for UK fees. Stipend of £17,000 and University of Surrey fees met for duration of studentship.

Probabilistic treatment of multi-scale residual stress and defects in fracture assessment of dissimilar joints for nuclear fusion

Funding information:
Full UK tuition fees (£4,500) with automatic increase to UKRI rate each year.A stipend of £18,609 per annum for 21/22, which will increase each year in line with the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) rate with additional funds for travel, equipment and consumables.

Facilities
