We provide world-class analysis of ceramics, polymers and metals, as well as composite materials consisting of two or more of these materials. Doing a PhD with us will allow you to use our nationally and internationally recognised facilities to test the cutting-edge of science and make new discoveries.

Assessing and modelling the performance of syntactic composite materials

Funding information:

Funding covers a stipend £19,000 pa (tax-free) and UK “home” tuition fees for 3.5 years. Funding is available to cover travel, conferences and consumables. Eligibility follows standard research council rules and include UK/Irish citizenship or ordinary residence within the UK for 3 years prior to the funding commencing, but please note that in the latter case only home fees will be covered.

XPS for energy materials: development of methods for the chemical speciation of transition metals

Facilities

We house facilities for various research such as quasi-static, dynamic and fatigue experiments as well as processing of functional ceramic powders and functional ink formulation and deposition.
