Sport and Exercise Science BSc (Hons)

Why I chose Surrey

I decided I wanted to do a sport science degree when I started my GCSEs and ever since then I have been fascinated by the subject, so when I discovered Surrey offered a BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science course, I knew it would be perfect for me.

When deciding which university to attend I already knew that Surrey was a very science-orientated university. The course was quite different to most sport science degrees offered at other universities, as it focuses on the science behind sport and exercise rather than just sport coaching.

My course

At the moment, I’m very much enjoying the anatomy side of the course and the practicals that come with it. I feel that physically going through certain movements really aids me when I’m learning about each of the different muscles and what they do.

The teaching staff are brilliant at Surrey; you can really tell that they are passionate about the subject. Any questions that I’ve asked have always been answered very quickly, whether it be about lectures or other parts of university life.

The amazing facilities at Surrey Sports Park also helped me decide to come to Surrey, and the fact that they performed well in the league tables was a definite bonus.

My life at Surrey

Since starting at Surrey I have become a member of the Women’s Football Club. My decision to join the club is one of the best I've ever made. Not only is the standard of football very high, but the people I’ve met through the club are some of my best friends at university. You get to meet people from different years and programmes and the social events are great!

One of the best things about life in general at Surrey has been the Sports Park, as that’s where I spend most of my free time. However, I also think Guildford as a place to live is lovely. It’s not too big or crowded but it has enough shops, bars and cafes to go to keep students entertained.
