You are invited to a workshop organised by the AI and Sustainability programme at the Institute for Sustainability. The agenda includes presentations and discussions on three research projects based on the topic: AI-enabled circular economy. The key speakers are:
Dr John Oyekan
Senior Lecturer, Department of Computer Science, University of York.
The Application of Industrial Digital Tools for Circularity in Manufacturing.
In this talk, John will discuss some of the digital frameworks being proposed and developed in supporting circularity in various sectors including construction, aerospace and automotive.
Dr Oliver Fisher
Assistant Professor in Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Nottingham.
Unlocking a Circular Carbon Economy.
It is recognised that 80% of the carbon feedstocks in the chemical sector still comes from fossil-based carbon. In this talk, Oliver will highlight the potential of AI to unlock sustainable carbon sources, thereby accelerating the transition towards a circular carbon economy.
Dr Xiatian Zhu
Senior Lecturer in People-Centred AI, CVSSP, School of Computer Sciences and Electronic Engineering, University of Surrey.
Seeing Emissions from Space: AI for CO₂ Forecasting.
Accurate forecasting of CO₂ emissions from industrial sources is key for effective climate action. In this talk, Xiatian will share how AI and satellite imagery can be used to predict regional CO₂ emissions with greater precision, highlighting the potential of combining space-based data with machine learning to tackle one of the world’s most pressing challenges.
