University of Surrey appoints Nigel Percival to drive Surrey’s global vision
The University of Surrey is expanding its Global Strategy and Engagement team with the appointment of experienced international higher education expert, Nigel Percival, to Project Manager (International Partnerships).
- Former International Operations Director at UCL joins Global Strategy and Engagement team to strengthen University’s global partner base.
- Nigel brings more than 30 years’ experience in higher education, with expertise in international strategy and overseas campus operations.
- His ability to grow global partnerships coupled with his experience of working with corporate partners such as the Santander Universities scheme named key reasons for his appointment.
This newly created role will drive forward the University’s ambitious global engagement strategy outlined by the new President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Max Lu, who joined Surrey on 25 April 2016.
Formerly International Operations Director at UCL, Nigel joins with more than 30 years’ experience in higher education, having held posts in admissions, student recruitment, widening access and international relations. In his latest role, Nigel supported the delivery of UCL’s international strategy and its overseas operations, which focused on Australia, Kazakhstan and Qatar. Nigel also catalysed the entry of Santander Universities into the UK.
Nigel will work closely with Senior Vice-President of Global Strategy and Engagement, Professor Vince Emery, to strengthen the University’s global partnership base. This builds on the expansion of the University Global Partnership Network (UGPN), an international network between the University of Surrey, North Carolina State University, University of São Paulo and the University of Wollongong, its most recent member.

Nigel takes up his new role on Monday 25 July.
