IOP dinner celebrates top honours for two Surrey academics

A special Institute of Physics (IOP) Awards Dinner in November was a chance to celebrate exceptional recognition for two members of the Department of Physics.

At the dinner, held on 19 November in London, Professor Jim Al-Khalili was officially awarded an Honorary Fellowship, the IOP’s highest honour, and Emeritus Professor Philip Walker was presented with the prestigious 2019 Ernest Rutherford medal and Prize.

Professor Al-Khalili received the Honorary Fellowship for his outstanding contributions as a broadcaster and presenter in communicating science to the public, while Professor Walker was recognised with the Ernest Rutherford Award for his work advancing understanding on the origins, properties and applications of metastable nuclear states.
