Teaching at Surrey ranked amongst top 50 in Europe

The University of Surrey has been ranked 45th in the new Times Higher Education (THE)  Europe Teaching Rankings 2018, recognising the outstanding quality of teaching and learning at the University.

THE Europe Teaching Rankings 2018 ranked the University of Surrey 45th out of more than 240 universities across southern and western Europe which included over 100 universities in the UK. This achievement comes one year on from Surrey being awarded a prestigious Gold award in the first-ever Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).

THE Europe Teaching Rankings 2018 is a pilot league table and the world’s first international ranking with a focus entirely on teaching and learning at universities. Survey questions centred on themes such as engagement with learning and how universities support and challenge student’s critical thinking, rather than focusing solely on student satisfaction. Key areas of focus were on resources, engagement, outcomes and environment.

Professor Jane Powell, Vice-Provost, Education and Students at the University of Surrey, commented: “This is a great testament to the hard work of our teaching staff who deliver innovative, engaging and varied courses to ensure our students get the most out of their time at University.

“The learning experience is at the heart of what we do at Surrey, giving our students the chance to be stretched in the classroom as well as supported to succeed.”
