"My undergraduate degree was about teaching English in China but, I realised I had a passion for interpreting and chose the University of Surrey.

We have many social activities which I have enjoyed outside my academic studies and I like that Surrey is very close to London which enriches my after-class activities.

I really enjoy the simulation aspect of interpretation as although it is challenging, it does help us a lot. Our teachers are all very supportive and classes are full of practical experience. We have simultaneous interpreting booths which are very helpful and we use these booths to do practical interpreting throughout our course.

The most transformational moment during my studies at Surrey is when I realised how important it is to develop the ability of self-learning and peer review. I can now say that I am becoming a much more mature learner now with strong independent thinking ability.

"This placement was a precious chance and you can learn a lot from it. I would recommend a placement to others as it can act as a guide for future careers."

During my studies at Surrey I was provided a placement to practice my simultaneous interpreting at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). Having first person experience of learning from top-level interpretation at IMO was really intriguing. We communicated with interpreters working at IMO and they shared with us interesting and useful interpreting skills. This placement was a precious chance and you can learn a lot from it. I would recommend a placement to others as it can act as a guide for future careers."
