Why choose
this course?

Whether you are an experienced coder or looking to take your first steps in computer science, on this Computer Science BSc/MEng, you’ll start studying at the level that is right for you.

  • Pick a path that matches your interests – all students on our computer science pathways study the same first year to build core skills and knowledge. Then from Year 2, you can opt for a dedicated course focusing on cyber security or AI, or stay on the core pathway and enjoy choosing from a wide range of modules including robotics, deep learning and ethical hacking.
  • Put your skills to the test in collaborative projects and real-world challenges, including hackathons on campus and across the UK. You’ll be encouraged by the School, our student societies, and Surrey’s Academic Centre in Cyber Security Education to get involved, build your experience, and have fun creating software using industry-standard engineering practices.
  • Build connections with leading employers across a wide range of sectors, from global tech companies and innovative SMEs to organisations based across the region and beyond. You’ll benefit from guest lectures, internship opportunities, and careers support including job fairs. We’ll help you develop the skills and confidence to secure placements through Surrey’s renowned Professional Training placements scheme.
  • Enjoy 24-hour access to professional standard facilities, including high-performance Linux systems and on-premise cloud infrastructure, and for your final year project use research tools such as distributed system clusters, space satellite test beds and drones.

Both our BSc Computer Science and MEng are accredited by the British Computer Society and provide the flexibility, hands-on opportunities and support to help you succeed.

We’re preparing you for the future by integrating AI into every course, building digital skills, confidence and creativity that employers value in tomorrow’s workplace.
