We are involved in a broad range of research areas within the department and across the University.

Research in the department

Our research has been recognised nationally and internationally as being excellent, e.g., our cyber security research is the core of Surrey Centre for Cyber Security (SCCS), one of 14 UK government recognised Academic Centres of Excellence for Cyber Security Research (ACEs-CSR), and our research on evolutionary computation, machine learning and computational neuroscience is internationally leading with wide applications to data-driven industrial optimisation, healthcare and bioinformatics.

We have a tradition of exploitation and practical application, and we enjoy strong research links with industry. We have a vibrant and active PhD community, and regularly host research visitors and speakers. The Department is organising diverse research related and social activities.
