Surrey ranks in top 10 for four engineering subjects
The Complete University Guide 2016 confirms the University’s leading position across the engineering disciplines
According to the latest figures, four engineering subjects at Surrey rank within the UK’s top ten. Aerospace Engineering has jumped two places to occupy the number six position, while Medical Engineering ranks in seventh place, and both Civil Engineering and Electronic Engineering are at number eight.
Overall, the University of Surrey has soared four places to become eighth best university in the UK, reflecting the investment it has put into learning and teaching across the board. This consolidates its rise up the major league tables in recent years, including its sixth place ranking in The Guardian University Guide 2015.
The Complete University Guide is based on performance in a number of key areas including student satisfaction, entry standards, graduate job prospects and quality of research. According to the league table, the proportion of students to have found a job within six months of completing their degree tops 90 per cent for Electrical & Electronic Engineering, while for Civil Engineering, graduate employment prospects are a hugely impressive 98 per cent.
Engineering programmes at Surrey also score highly when it comes to student satisfaction. According to the latest National Student Survey (2014), there is an overall satisfaction rate of 90 per cent for Electronic Engineering, and over 85 per cent for Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
Professor Jonathan Seville, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, said, “We are proud to have four of our engineering subjects within the Complete University Guide top ten, reflecting our continual investment in the best academic staff and facilities. Our successful programmes build on our strong collaborative links with industry partners and our position as a leading research hub in areas such as space satellites, nanotechnology and biomedical engineering.”
