University of Surrey student wins inaugural marketing scholarship

A final year student from the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management has become the first winner of the Wimdu Scholarship, a programme designed to recognise the skills that are fundamental to a successful marketing campaign in a fast-paced, global economy.

Tourism Management undergraduate Nikolay Yotov was chosen unanimously as the preferred entry for the Scholarship, following a UK-wide search for the next generation of marketing and management talent. Nikolay will receive £1,000 towards his final year of studies and an offer of a job interview with Wimdu upon graduation.

The Wimdu Scholarship was open to all final year students in the UK connected to the fields of marketing, business administration or communications. Applicants were asked to write a synopsis of how they would further the Wimdu brand in the UK, with the selection committee choosing “the most creative and compelling idea submitted”.

Chun-Tong Chung, Wimdu’s UK Online Marketing Manager and Scholarship Committee chair commented: “Nikolay produced a very professional and excellently argued application and it was unanimously decided that he was the deserved winner of the award.”

Wimdu is a social accommodation community that brings together travelers and hosts from around the world to enable consumers worldwide to travel like a local. The site lists a range of over 235,000 properties internationally across over 140 countries.

The Wimdu Scholarship is awarded bi-annually, in September and February, to assist a promising student interested in pursuing a career in business management and marketing related fields. Following the success of the inaugural award, Wimdu is launching their second scholarship ready for this academic year’s second semester. The application process opens on September 30th 2013 and will close January 24th 2014.
