University of Surrey technician wins silver at the Invictus Games

Two cycling silver medals for Andy Kelsey from the School of English and Languages.

Months of training at Surrey Sports Park have paid off for the University of Surrey’s Andy Kelsey after he won two cycling silver medals at the 2014 Invictus Games.

Andy, who is a technician in the School of English and Languages, finished second in both the Men's Circuit Race 6 (Road Bike - IRB1) and the Men's Time Trial 6 (Road Bike - IRB1).

With two medals in the trophy cabinet, Andy is now setting his sights on Rio and a spot in the Team GB line-up for the 2016 Olympic Games. Andy suffered serious injuries in a climbing fall while serving with the RAF.

The Invictus Games is an international multi-sport event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women. The first games were held in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in September 2014.
