US-UK Fulbright Scholar Award for 2016/2017

Professor Justin D Edwards has received a prestigious US-UK Fulbright Scholar Award for 2016/17. The US-UK award is part of the global Fulbright Programme, one of the most esteemed awards programmes for scholars worldwide. As a Fulbright scholar, he will do research on the relationship between travel writing and transnational fiction and contribute to the literature programme at Elon University, North Carolina.

Commenting on receiving the award, Justin said: “I was delighted to learn that I had received this award. As a Fulbright scholar, I wilI have the opportunity to do research transnational fiction and travel writing at important libraries and archives in the US. This is an incredible opportunity which will also enable me to engage with staff and students at Elon University in North Carolina. This is not only about developing my expertise in travel writing but also about the diverse scholars and students that I will meet which I think is going to be a tremendously inspirational experience.”

The US-UK Fulbright Commission is the only bi-lateral, transatlantic scholarship programme, offering awards for research in any field, at any accredited US or UK university. The Commission selects scholars through a rigorous application and interview process. In making these awards the Commission looks not only for academic excellence but a focused application, a range of extracurricular and community activities, demonstrated ambassadorial skills, a desire to further the Fulbright Programme and a plan to give back to the recipient’s home country upon returning.
