Dr Shujun Li to participate in joint international research project
Dr Shujun Li, a Senior Lecturer of the Department, will be participating in joint research as a subproject co-investigator (CI) of a new 4-year €8m SFB/Transregio (Transregional Collaborative Research Center) 161 "Quantitative Methods for Visual Computing", funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation).
SFB/Transregio 161 is a consortium project supporting researchers from three German research institutes (University of Stuttgart, University of Konstanz, and Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics) and their collaborators to conduct 22 subprojects including 18 research-oriented subprojects on Models and Measures (Group A), Adaptive Algorithms (Group B), Interaction (Group C), and Applications (Group D) and also 4 subprojects on Central Services and Training (Group Z). The whole project started on 1 July 2015 and will last for 4 year. The overall aim of the project is to produce computerised data and image processing and display algorithms and systems with measurable quality and applicability.
The subproject Dr Shujun Li will be contributing as a co-investigator (CI) is A05 "Image/Video Quality Assessment: From Test Databases to Similarity-Aware and Perceptual Dynamic Metrics" in Group A (Models and Measures). This subproject has Prof Dietmar Saupe of the University of Konstanz as the principal investigator (PI), Prof Tamás Szirányi of the MTA Sztaki (Institute for Computer Science and Control of Hungarian Academy of Sciences) and Dr Shujun Li of the Department as two international CIs. This subproject aims at developing new image and video quality assessment methods beyond the state of the art. The project will help strengthen the Department's research on multimedia computing such as multimedia security and forensics because visual quality is at the core of any multimedia-related security and forensics tasks.
The whole SFB/Transregio 161 will have its first Status Seminars from 22-24 September 2015 in Mosbach, Germany, and the subproject A05 will see its first project meeting in Konstanz, Germany from 1-2 October 2015. It is planned that Dr Shujun Li will host a project workshop for the subproject A05 in 2017 at the University of Surrey, and host short-term visiting project members from the University of Konstanz during the project duration.
