New community garden for Westborough

Estates team staff from the University of Surrey have come together with local residents to create a garden with a view.

Residents of Cathedral View in Westborough have been working with the University of Surrey's estates team to create a new community garden space, supported by Guildford Borough Council’s Project Aspire.

A disused washing and drying area with a view of Guildford Cathedral was identified by the Council’s eagle-eyed Community Wardens, prompting a consultation with local residents. The University was given the go-ahead by neighbouring residents to help create a community-led green space.

It is hoped that over the next few months and years, the space will be used by local people who will take ownership and visit regularly to grow flowers and vegetables, meet friends or simply take time to enjoy the view.

The initiative is one of several, local, green-space projects the University is involved with. To find out more, or to talk to the University about green-space opportunities near you, please contact Public Engagement Manager Ross Kelway: r.kelway@surrey.ac.uk or 01483 686 848.
