Professor Mark Gieles elected to join the editorial board of the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society

Professor Mark Gieles, Head of the Astrophysics Research Group within the Department of Physics, has recently been elected to join the editorial board of the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society (MNRAS).

Professor Mark Gieles, Head of the Astrophysics Research Group within the Department of Physics, has recently been elected to join the editorial board of the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society (MNRAS).

Professor Gieles's work focuses on the dynamics of stars and black holes in the Milky Way and his research is funded by a prestigious Starting Grant of the European Research Council (ERC) and a Royal Society University Research Fellowship (URF).

The MNRAS journal “is one of the world’s leading primary research journals in astronomy and astrophysics, as well as one of the longest established. It publishes the results of original research in positional and dynamical astronomy, astrophysics, radio astronomy, cosmology, space research and the design of astronomical instruments."

Commenting on his appointment Professor Gieles said “I am delighted to have been given this opportunity and this appointment recognises the excellence of the Surrey Astrophysics Group and the Department of Physics.”
