Surrey Computing student awarded WCIT Outstanding Information Technology Student Prize 2015

Congratulations to Claudia Baturone, a final-year undergraduate student in the Department of Computing, who was recently awarded an “Outstanding Information Technology Student Prize 2015” by the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists (WCIT).

Only 7 such prizes were given this year to students from Surrey, Cambridge, Oxford, City University London, Brunel, Hertfordshire and Warwick.

The prizes were created this year to recognise outstanding UG/MSc students studying at a UK university, making Claudia one of the first ever recipients of the prizes. Criteria for the award included academic excellence, overcoming adversity, entrepreneurial skills and contribution to charity or community.

Claudia, who is studying for the BSc in Computing and Information Technology at the Department, is an outstanding student with consistently high academic performance, an active student helper at the University’s open days and applicant days, and was rated highly by her employer during her placement year at Withers LLP’s headquarters in London.

The WCIT is one of the Livery Companies of the City of London and received its livery status in 1992 making it the 100th Livery Company. The WCIT currently has over 700 members who are all senior practitioners in the information technology industry. More information about the WCIT can be found at its website and its Wikipedia entry.
