Surrey Professor appointed to help guide EPSRC strategy
Professor Julie Yeomans has been named as a new member of the EPSRC’s Strategic Advisory Network (SAN). The network provides the EPSRC executive team with strategic advice to assist the Council in developing, implementing and modifying plans, along with making recommendations on a wide range of issues. The SAN is made up of around 30 prominent and highly regarded individuals from academia, business, third sector and Government.
Professor Yeomans is Professor of Ceramic Materials at the University, specialising in ceramic and ceramic matrix composite systems. In 2008, she was awarded the Verulam Medal and Prize from the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. As well as having significant experience of working with EPSRC previously, she was part of the Advanced Materials Leadership Council, which provided strategic advice to the Minister of State for Universities and Science.
The EPSRC, which is part of UK Research and Innovation, is the main provider of government funding for research and postgraduate training in engineering and the physical sciences.
Professor Yeomans said: “It is a great privilege to be invited to join the Strategic Advisory Network, and it presents a wonderful opportunity to help shape the work of a great organisation.”
