The Centre for Vision Speech and Signal Processing, or CVSSP as it’s known, is a great place to undertake a PhD in machine learning or machine perception. It has a diverse range of research groups all with their own areas of expertise.

Surrey PhD student Daisy Shearer is an experimental physicist working in quantum technology at our Advanced Technology Institute.

Bowei Li is a PhD research student at our Advanced Technology Institute who originally studied for his undergraduate and masters degrees in China. At Surrey, he's working on next generation solar power cells and he’s just had his first academic journal paper published.

I chose the University of Surrey not just for my course’s league table position, but after visiting the campus and seeing the facilities. That made the difference in making Surrey my first choice.

My journey to the University of Surrey started when I was still a masters student. I was studying at São Paulo State University in the Chemistry Institute of Araraquara, Brazil, when I had the opportunity to spend 10 weeks conducting experiments in Surrey’s Advanced Technology Institute.

The opportunity to meet and work with people from such diverse backgrounds has given me different insights into research.
