LEVEL OF STUDY
In the second semester, we visited Queen Alexander Hospital in Portsmouth and Royal Surrey County Hospital which helped me decide what to do for my career.
There are a lot of external speakers on the course, including from the Royal Surrey Hospital and the National Physical Laboratory. They really help to widen your understanding of medical physics applications.
My lecturers have all been engaging and encouraging. They welcome questions and are happy to have one-to-one discussions.
A summer placement at Adaptix, manufacturer of innovative 3D x-ray imaging devices, was a great opportunity to develop hard and soft skills for Constantine Pelesis, who is now a clinical technologist in Singleton Hospital’s Nuclear Medicine Department.
The Braithwaite scholarship greatly eased the pressure and allowed me to focus less on the financial burden of the degree and more on enjoying what I came to Surrey to do: to further my knowledge of the subject area I wanted to make my career in.
The tutors are always happy to help if you have questions via email or after class, while students are encouraged to innovate and be creative during assessments and conduct research themselves under guidance.
Many of our masters students progress on to a PhD in an area they’re passionate about, while others take up a wide range of exciting roles in industry. On graduation day, we caught up with Chutima Termsuk, who studied for our Medical Physics MSc and is now undertaking a PhD at Surrey in radiation dosimetry.
The course really helped prepare me for my future career – I apply almost every element of my MSc on a daily basis – and allowed me to make a wealth of useful contacts.
One of the things I enjoy the most about the course is the variety in the way we’re taught and assessed: we’ve had practical lab sessions and a clinical visit to a nuclear medicine department, alongside traditional classroom lectures.
