Undergraduate application timeline

Find out about the application process for undergraduate courses at the University of Surrey.

  • Stage 1

    Submit your application

    Submit your application via the UCAS website.

  • Stage 2

    Log into Surrey Self-Service

    Within 24 hours of receiving your application you will receive an email which will contain your University Number and a link to Surrey Self-Service.



    Once you have logged in, you will be able to navigate and respond to any requests for information, track the status of your application.

  • Stage 3

    Initial application screening and document review

    During this stage your academic qualifications will be reviewed against our published criteria.

    We will also check your personal statement, and references or supporting information you have provided in your application.

    We aim to complete our initial screening within two weeks of receiving your application.

    You do not need to send us anything further, should we require more information to make a decision on your application we will be in touch.

  • Stage 4

    Academic referral

    Sometimes an academic may wish to have a closer look at your application so we pass your application to them for additional support. This can take up to a week for your application to be returned to us.

  • Stage 5

    Selection event*

    If you have been invited to an event, you will need to log into Surrey Self-Service to book on.

    To book onto an event, you will need to log into your Surrey Self-Service account and select the event you wish to attend from the events section. You may see more than one event there with different dates, select view on your preferred date and then respond to invitation at the bottom of the page, you will then be taken through to input your response and any additional details. Once you have confirmed attendance you will receive a confirmation email.

  • Stage 6

    Application decision made

    To view your application you will need to log into Surrey Self-Service.

    You will then be able to view your offer letter and print of a copy, you can also view the outcome by login into your UCAS Hub account.

  • Stage 7

    Decide on your offer

    You can accept or decline your offer by logging onto your UCAS Hub account, make sure you are mindful of any deadlines set by UCAS to reply to your offers by.

  • Stage 8

    Consider your accommodation

    To book accommodation please visit our accommodation pages.

  • Stage 9

    Complete task list

    To find your task list please log into Surrey Self-Service, completed tasks will show as green and will be marked as complete.

  • Stage 10

    Student visa*

    To request a visa to study in the UK you need to complete our CAS request form in Surrey Self-Service by selecting CAS Request form from your tasks lists. This will take you to an online form where you can check your current information, and supply evidence needed for us to be able to issue you a CAS. If you do not need a CAS you will still need to complete this task to confirm this with us.

  • Stage 11

    Complete your credibility check for CAS

    Only applicants who require a visa to study are required to complete this section with Surrey Self-Service.

  • Stage 12

    Welcome to the University of Surrey

    We usually send out welcome instructions approximately four weeks prior to your start date. You will only receive this information once your offer is unconditional and:

    • You have accepted the offer
    • Confirmed your right to study/ completed the CAS request process
    • Confirmed your fee status.
