LEVEL OF STUDY
Veterinary Medicine and Science BVMSci (Hons)
The staff are helpful and understanding. I have a great tutor, but if I had any issue, I could go to any lecturer and they would help. Surrey has a great community and you do not feel alone.
My first impression of Surrey was that it was a very supportive university that wanted to help you succeed.
I’ve been grateful to be fully immersed in veterinary practice throughout my placements. There have been opportunities for me to work with a huge variety of species, ranging from sharks to servals!
Doing my first surgery on the neutering clinic and being surrounded and encouraged by my friends from my course while I did it is my favourite memory. It was exactly what I wanted to come to vet school for.
I worked at Fitzpatrick Referrals, home of The Supervet, and assisted with spinal surgery on a miniature dachshund suffering from intravertebral disc disease.
On my EMS, I got to perform a lump removal, calculating and drawing up drugs, placing an IV, and inducing and intubating the patient – I felt like a real vet!
All the teaching staff have a host of knowledge and often help to augment our learning in new and exciting ways. They’ve always remained approachable for anything.
I'm now a small animal vet and it feels great to finally be independent and in charge of my own cases. I love my job, the practice and the people I work with!
My EMS highlights include delivering lambs in the middle of the night, resuscitating puppies after a long caesarean section and saving a dog’s life with CPR.
