We asked some of our friendly students to give us an insight into their experience of living in-hall on campus....
I lived in university accommodation for my first year and I am currently in my second year, and I still live in university accommodation. It is a great experience as I’ve met people from different ethnic backgrounds, and it also helped me realise that we all have different values and norms. The best thing about living in university accommodation is that it’s been such a great bonding experience.Abisola Adeolu, BSc Criminology
I lived in student accommodation during my Foundation Year and I absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was constantly amazing, and I managed to win the lottery with the people I lived with.George Clapp, BEng Civil Engineering with a Foundation Year
I lived in Manor Park in my first year which I really enjoyed. The location was so convenient for getting to campus and it was also right next to the Surrey Sports Park, which was great for me as I could walk to the gym. Living in shared flats was really sociable and was where I met some of my closest friends!Thea Hudson, BSc Food Science and Nutrition
I have lived in both Cathedral Court and Surrey Court (both band C). I have absolutely loved being in the centre of campus, as I can wake up at 8:50am and still make it on time to my 9:00am lectures! The view from my room in Surrey Court is amazing, I can see Woking and sometimes the lights of London. Although I live in the centre of campus, there really isn’t a lot of noise and the rooms are well soundproofed.Elliot Orsborn, BSc Business Management and Spanish
It’s a nice vibe too, there’s always somebody to chat to in the kitchen and any issues with your flat mates can be resolved through the Residential Life team.
When I joined the University, I lived on Manor Park which I loved. It has such a student village vibe to it, and it was such a friendly place to spend my first year. I lived in a mixed flat with students on loads of different courses and we got on really well with the whole building. I made so many lifelong friends whilst living there.Jamila Richmond, BVMSci Veterinary Medicine and Science
I really enjoyed living somewhere where everyone was a student. I enjoyed being among my peers and hearing them chat outside the window. Also, I lived right outside the vet school, so my commute was basically non-existent!
During my foundation year, I lived in Manor Park with five other students. I was the only international student in our halls, and all five of my flat mates were very supportive of my wellbeing. We had a blast throughout the year, such as cooking Christmas dinner together, decorating the shared kitchen with Hallowe'en decorations and celebrating each of our birthdays – these are definitely some of the memories I’ll always treasure from my time at Surrey.Copter Sae Tung, BSc Food Science and Nutrition
I lived in Manor Park in my first year and it was an incredible experience. Halls are where I met my best friends and learnt to do everything without my parents’ help.Robyn Whitmore, LLB Law (Philosophy, Politics and Law pathway)
I love the vibes of living on campus as everyone is in the same position you are. It feels like you are on a year-long residential. I also enjoyed having everything you could need in one place.
