Academic year 2020/21

Amendments to the regulations

There are amendments to the regulations for the remainder of the 2020/21 academic year: increased maximum of compensation credits.

On 11 January 2021, the Executive Board considered the principles that should guide the reintroduction of the safety net and other regulatory steps that could be taken to support students following a deterioration of the status of the pandemic over the winter 2020-21 period. In terms of regulatory adaptations, these principles outlined the following:

  • A supportive approach to extenuating circumstances that recognises the potential impacts of lockdown
  • The continuation of up to 15 credit trailing credit as put in place permanently during the summer of 2020
  • Increasing the maximum available credit value for compensation for another year up to 30 credits at FHEQ levels 5, 6 and 7 and up to 15 credit at FHEQ level 3 where possible and allowable by PSRBs.

These principles enabled the development and consultation of detailed proposals, which were subsequently approved by the University on 20 April 2021:

These amendments to regulations will be used on a temporary basis for the remaining part of the 2020/21 academic year. However, should the Covid-19 outbreak persist into the next academic year, consideration may need to be given to further adaptations or retaining these amendments for a longer period.
