"I was awarded with the Department Prize for Excellence at the end of my third year which was a definite personal highlight as it felt like recognition of all my hard work and good results."
"My first impression of Surrey was that it is a very self-contained campus university which wasn’t too big or overcrowded. I felt that the facilities were ideal for the intake sizes and would be ideal for me to take advantage of and stretch myself to reach my potential.
The aspects of my course I enjoy the most are the modules taken by the better organised and more coherent lecturers. In these lectures I feel that a lot can be learned about my subject and the knowledge which they impart is done with great enthusiasm and understanding of their own.
Most of the academics and staff are exceptionally good at their jobs and clearly care about how well their students do and their understanding.
All of the staff are very friendly and approachable if you need help.
The best things about life at Surrey are the easy access to facilities like Starbucks and the train station. As well as having Guildford town centre in very easy walking distance with its many shops and restaurants. I also like the campus itself with its lake. The lectures themselves can also be classed as a plus, especially in later years when you can make the choices of which modules you are doing and with which lecturers.
I spend my time on campus doing a variety of things, whether it’s meeting friends in Starbucks, chilling out by the lake or studying in the library.
I was awarded with the Department Prize for Excellence at the end of my third year which was a definite personal highlight as it felt like recognition of all my hard work and good results. I also find the one to one meetings with my supervisor about my masters project, on superconformal quantum mechanics, to be greatly interesting and a challenge that I am enjoying greatly.
I feel that Surrey has made me more confident in my own abilities and has shown that if I am willing to put the work in I can achieve the things I want. Surrey has also helped further my knowledge in mathematics and developed many relationships with people which have helped shape me and will continue to do so.
I have greatly enjoyed my time at Surrey and have enjoyed many of my lectures. I believe that the Department of Mathematics truly care about their students and doing their best for them. I feel that the campus is well set up and that the library facilities are very good as well as the other study spaces and computer labs around the university. The members of the Department are always willing to help students should they ask for it and give very good feedback on work."
