What you will study

Our BSc (Hons) Business Management (Business Analytics pathway) course will help you to develop business analytics skills, which are highly sought after in today’s challenging economic environment. By enrolling on this programme, you’ll have the opportunity to study both the latest academic research and industry trends in this dynamic field.

The course offers a variety of exciting modules such as classical business analytics, big data analytics methods and tools applied in the business world in addition to cutting-edge modules such as AI for business.

You’ll have the opportunity to engage in real-life cases through guest speakers from top organisations, visits and internship possibilities, and a final year business challenge, which will allow you to explore more advanced business analytics topics of your choice.

Business Analytics Challenge Project

The Business Analytics Challenge Project 1 and 2 will be part of your final year of study. Both modules are part of a substantial piece of academic research based on a real-life problem. This will give you the opportunity to meet organisations trying to solve a realistic business challenge or it could be a problem of your own choice. You’ll be able to investigate possible solutions in Semester 1 and implement them in Semester 2. Timetable

New students will receive their personalised timetable in Welcome Week, and in subsequent semesters, two weeks prior to the start of semester.

Please note that while we make every effort to ensure that timetables are as student-friendly as possible, scheduled teaching can take place on any day of the week (Monday–Friday). Wednesday afternoons are normally reserved for sports and cultural activities. Part-time classes are normally scheduled on one or two days per week, details of which can be obtained from the course administrators. View our Code of practice for the scheduling of teaching and assessment (PDF)

Teaching

We provide teaching on this course through lectures, tutorials, seminars and workshop sessions, which total about 12 hours each week. The purpose is to use, rather than just study, economics.

In tutorials we’ll encourage you to present your own ideas and develop the verbal skills that will stand you in good stead for the future. Classes and workshops are practical sessions in which you’ll develop the ability to apply and use economics.

For each hour of teaching, you are expected to spend two to three hours in private study. There are also modules where we require you to work in groups.

We pride ourselves on the levels of supervision you’ll receive, creating a warm and friendly environment in which to study. The student experience at Surrey Business School is vital to the success of our courses, and you’ll be encouraged to express yourself and develop your full potential.

There may be occasions when the delivery of your teaching is supported by graduate teaching assistants. The University has a set of procedures that govern the use of postgraduate research students in this way.

Assessment

We assess modules individually and award credits for the successful completion of each one. Assessment takes place through a combination of examination and/or coursework, practical examinations and reports. Check individual module information to see full details at a module level.
