By the end of this course, you’ll be able to use your digital marketing knowledge to create marketing communication campaigns for both social media and more traditional channels. You’ll also have a practical understanding of marketing analytics and channel management, so you can make well-informed decisions in practice.

What you will study
This MSc course combines two areas: digital marketing and channel management. Whether you choose the 12, 15 or 24-month version, you’ll explore both fields in detail, studying topics including social media, entrepreneurship and marketing analytics. You’ll also choose two optional modules based on your own interests and career aspirations.
This course is taught through interactive lectures, seminars and small-group laboratory sessions. You’ll also attend talks by industry guest speakers, who will share practical examples and help you reflect on what you learn, giving you the opportunity to develop your professional network.
Please note that the programme is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). Our graduates who enrol with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) as an affiliate can study CIM qualifications without having to complete all of the modules.
For most qualifications, you’ll only need to take two assessments instead of the usual three, meaning you’ll be able to add an individual award to supplement your degree. Please note: there is a fee to join the CIM.
This course offers a strong element of exposure to practice, with some projects (dissertations and assignments) having the potential to be conducted in collaboration with the industry, giving you more opportunities to develop your professional skills and enhance your employability.
The teaching of this course incorporates blended learning practices and is supported by the intended course structure, latest technologies and top-level research expertise within Surrey Business School and the Department of Marketing and Retail Management.

We will also make certain that students can practise – and not just be instructed about – the techniques and behaviours that distinguish excellent professionals by ensuring you receive feedback from practitioners as well as academics.
Our 24-month MSc Digital Marketing and Channel Management with professional placement year course enables you to spend time working in industry.
If you choose and secure a place at one of our partner organisations, you’ll complete 12 months of study at Surrey and spend up to 12 months gaining professional work experience at your placement company. This means you will complete your course in two years studying full-time.
If you decide not to complete a placement or do not secure a place, you’ll complete nine months of teaching followed by three months working on your dissertation. This means you will complete your course in 12 months studying full-time.
Study and work abroad
Our 15-month MSc Digital Marketing and Channel Management course enables you to spend a semester studying abroad.
If you choose and secure a place at a partner university, you’ll complete two semesters (nine months) of study at Surrey and spend a semester studying abroad. This means you will complete your course in 15 months studying full-time. You will not be writing a dissertation.
If you decide not to study abroad or do not secure a place, you’ll complete nine months of teaching at Surrey followed by three months working on your dissertation. This means you will complete your course in 12 months studying full-time.

The University operates a credit framework for all taught programmes based on a 15-credit tariff. Modules can be either 15, 30, 45 or 60, 75 and 120 credits, and additionally for some masters dissertations, 90 credits.
The structure of our programmes follows clear educational aims that are tailored to each programme. These are all outlined in the programme specifications which include further details such as the learning outcomes:
New students will receive their personalised timetable in Welcome Week, and in subsequent semesters, two weeks prior to the start of semester. Please note that while we make every effort to ensure that timetables are as student-friendly as possible, scheduled teaching can take place on any day of the week (Monday–Friday). Wednesday afternoons are normally reserved for sports and cultural activities. The University of Surrey recognises that many students enter their higher education course with valuable knowledge and skills developed through a range of professional, vocational and community contexts. If this applies to you, a process called recognition of prior learning (RPL) may allow you to enter your course at a point appropriate to your previous learning and experience, or to join the start of a course without the formal entry requirements. This means that you may be exempt from certain elements of study in the course for which you have applied and be awarded credit based on your previous qualifications/experience. There are restrictions on RPL for some courses and fees may be payable for certain claims.

The 2 years full-time programme which includes a 12 months placement costs an additional £1850 on top of the base course fee listed above.
- These fees apply to students commencing study in the academic year 2020-21 only. Fees for new starters are reviewed annually.
- If you are on a two-year or three-year part-time structured masters course, the annual fee is payable in Year 1 and Year 2 of the course.
