Professor Osama Khan is the Vice-Provost, Education, at the University of Surrey, Guildford, UK. He is the strategic lead for the University's education agenda providing talented and motivated students from all backgrounds with an outstanding education that is inclusive, research-informed, technologically enhanced and professionally enriched with industry partnerships. He holds a Professor in Practice title at the Surrey Business School. He also manages the University's centres of excellence in education: Department of Higher Education and Department of Technology Enhanced Learning. Currently, he has been leading on the Hybrid Education model at the University as a strategic response to the Covid19 pandemic and driving digital transformation in education and student experience.
Osama has 23 years of experience in teaching corporate finance, derivatives, mathematical economics, real estate finance and economics and investment management in various universities including the University of Surrey, University of Cambridge, University of Hong Kong, Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, Copenhagen Business School and HEC Paris. He is an avid advocate of technology-enhanced learning and won multiple awards as an innovative teacher throughout his career. He has taught large classes with more than 600 students across three different geographic locations and yet maintained a high level of learner engagement using technology, VLE, enquiry-based learning and peer learning in large lecture scenarios. He believes in facilitating learning by working in partnership with students.
More recently, Osama worked at Solent University where he was the founding Director of Learning and Teaching and established the Solent Learning and Teaching Institute (SLTI) leading and brokering innovation and creativity in education. He was subsequently promoted to be the founding Pro Vice-Chancellor, Students and Teaching, leading a portfolio including a student hub (one-stop-shop for student services), wellbeing and neurodiversity, student employability and careers, student enterprise, the University library and the SLTI. He successfully implemented institution-wide curriculum review embedding a curriculum framework designed by Prof Tansy Jessop based on wide staff and student consultation. He also led on institution-wide technology initiatives like CRM for student recruitment and student services, learning analytics and technology-enhanced social learning space. Osama has significant experience in organisational transformation delivering cultural change, operational efficiency, KPIs included in Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) metrics, and value for money for our students. He led on institutional Subject TEF pilots and has an understanding of how the British university sector is changing being regulated by the Office for Students (OfS). He is currently part of a national advisory group formed by the OfS to reshape the Teaching Excellence Framework.
Coming from a BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) background, Osama believes in transforming lives through inclusive education and nurturing the power of equality, diversity and inclusion. He is part of various national initiatives related to student wellbeing, equitable attainment and BAME leadership in higher education. He was the Muslim Chaplain of the University of Surrey and Solent University and sits within an advisory group helping the Department for Education with the implementation of Prevent Duty. He grew up in Bangladesh, loves walking, social networking, culinary tourism and lives in Surrey with his wife and two children. Nothing excites him more than teaching corporate finance to students in different classroom scenarios.

Research interests
Professor Osama Khan's research interests are in the area of technology-enhanced learning, social learning space, learning analytics, inclusive education, curriculum transformation, student services transformation, corporate finance and real estate finance and economics. He has engaged with externally funded research projects related to learning analytics and inclusive education in recent time. As a practitioner, Osama's educational initiatives are informed by relevant research, data and analytics.
