Dr Andrew Hares is a Lecturer in Air Transport and Tourism in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. He is also Deputy Programme Leader on the MSc Air Transport Management degree.
Prior to joining the University of Surrey in June 2017, Andrew was a Lecturer in Tourism and Aviation Management at Buckinghamshire New University. He was the module leader for Aviation in the Global Context, Business Strategy for Airlines, Crisis Management in Tourism, Economics and Finance, Research Methods, Tour Operations Management, and Tourism Development and Planning. At Surrey, Andrew teaches on a range of different modules on the BSc (Hons) International Tourism Management and MSc Air Transport Management degree programmes.
Andrew received a BA (Hons) in Economics from the University of the West of England and an MSc in Tourism Management from the University of Surrey. He gained his PhD at Bournemouth University, where his thesis examined tourists' understanding of the impacts of air travel on climate change.
Andrew has over 10 years' industry experience in the tourism sector. Prior to entering academia, he was Marketing Evaluation Manager at VisitBritain, the Government tourist board for Great Britain. During his career at VisitBritain, he also worked in international marketing, partnership marketing, and market research positions. Andrew has also held marketing roles with Visit Bath and Brann. Before moving into the tourism sector, he worked in banking for Barclays and ANZ Bank.
